The Toronto Market

The TSX composite was up 133.73 points or 0.54% to close the market at 24,923.01. The TSX defied the negative market trend at most North American markets today.

                                                                                                                                                         

Today’s Statistics: Today, the declined issues (Decliners) outnumbered the gaining issues (Advancers). There were roughly nine Decliners for every four Advancers or a ratio of 2.31 to 1.0. In real numbers, there were 1,337 Decliners and 578 Advancers while 140 stocks remained Unchanged.

The total volume of shares traded at the TSX on Friday was 439,744,946 or 15% more when compared to the volume of 383,387,777 shares traded yesterday.

Today, there were 184 new 52-Week Highs and 38 new 52-Week Lows. By comparison, there were 380 new 52-Week Highs and 30 new 52-Week Lows yesterday.

The US markets

After hours action:  Stock futures inched lower as investors look toward key inflation report. Dow Jones futures  was down -0.34%. S&P 500 futures was down -0.25% and Nasdaq 100 futures fell -0.27%.

The Markets Today:

The Dow Jones Index declined -382.15 points or 0.86% to close at 43,910.98. The S&P 500 index was down -17.36 points or -0.29%, to close at 5,983.99. The Nasdaq Composite was down a mere -17.36 points or -0.09%, to close the session at 19,281.40. All three indexes declined at today’s market session.

Today’s Market Statistics:  At the NYSE, the declined issues (Decliners) outnumbered the gaining issues (Advancers). There were roughly seven Decliners for every two Advancers or a ratio of 3.47-to-1.0. In actual numbers, there were 3,180 Decliners to 915 Advancers with 251 Unchanged.

Today, there were 328 new 52-Week Highs and 101 new 52-Week Lows. By comparison, yesterday there were 808 new 52-Week Highs and 84 new 52-Week Lows.

The total volume of stocks traded at the NYSE today was 1,029,459,765 or 2% more when compared to the total volume of 1,011,396,040 stocks traded yesterday.

On the NASDAQ, the Decliners outnumbered the Advancers. Roughly for every nine Decliners there were four Advancers or a ratio of 2.27 to 1.0. In actual numbers, 3,013 Decliners to 1,328 Advancers with 225 Unchanged.

Today, there were 258 new 52-Week Highs but 139 new 52-Week Lows. By comparison, yesterday there were 584 new 52-Week Highs but 108 new 52-Week Lows.

The total volume of stocks traded at the NASDAQ today was 8,323,595,352, or just about the same when compared to the total volume of 8,322,224,099 shares traded yesterday.

Oil Price:      U.S. crude oil prices rose 8 cents to $68.12 a barrel. Oil price was at $68.16 up $0.04 as at the time of this post.

10 –year Treasury Yield:  The 10-year Treasury yield jumped 12 basis points to 4.433%.

Market Roundup Report:  A number of some postelection winners such as Tesla suffered relatively big percentage losses. The market indexes were down today but on lower volumes of stocks traded. The inflation report tomorrow morning will dictate the market session’s activities and direction including if the Trump rally persists.
