The Toronto Market
The TSX composite index declined -35.35 points or -0.14% to close the market session at 25,534.49. The TSX is back in the period of alternating gaining and declining market sessions, that happened early last week.
Today’s Statistics: The issues that gained (Advancers) barely outnumbered the issues that declined (Decliners). There was one Advancer for every Decliner or a more exact ratio of 1.02-to-1.0. In real numbers, there were 971 Advancers to 947 Decliners while 163 stocks remained Unchanged.
Today, there were 125 new 52-Week Highs and 36 new 52-Week Lows. By comparison, there were 126 new 52-Week Highs and 21 new 52-Week Lows yesterday.
The total volume of shares traded today at the TSX was 371,167,000 or 8% less the volume of 404,749,453 shares traded yesterday.
The US Markets
The North American market was mixed today as the Dow Jones Index blinked. The Dow Jones index was down -125.65 or -0.28% to close at 44,747.63. The S&P 500 index was up 22.09 points or 0.36% to close at 6,083.57. The Nasdaq Composite was up 99.66 points or 0.51%, to close at 19,791.99.
Today’s Market Statistics: At the NYSE, the number of issues that gained (Advancers) edged out the number of issues that declined (Decliners). There was an Advancer for every Decliner or an exact ratio of 1.05-to-1.0. In actual numbers, there were 2,120 Advancers to 2,019 Decliners with 343 Unchanged. The bears and the bulls were almost even in their actions today.
Today, there were 179 new 52-Week Highs and 55 new 52-Week Lows. By comparison, yesterday, there were 169 new 52-Week Highs and 46 new 52-Week Lows.
The total volume of stocks traded at the NYSE today was 4,949,296,612 or 9% more, compared to the volume of 4,548,272,443 shares traded yesterday.
On the NASDAQ, the Decliners outnumbered the Advancers. There were eleven Decliners for every ten Advancers or an exact ratio of 1.13-to-1.0. In actual numbers, 2,317 Decliners to 2,051 Advancers with 268 Unchanged.
Today, there were 174 new 52-Week Highs and 104 new 52-Week Lows. By comparison, yesterday there were 166 new 52-Week Highs and 102 new 52-Week Lows.
The total volume of shares traded at the NASDAQ today was 6,963,933,337, or about the same compared to the volume of 6,932,763,936 shares traded yesterday.
Oil Price: U.S. crude Oil price fell in choppy trade after Trump repeats pledge to lower prices. Oil price was $70.98 at the time (11pm EST) of this post.
10 –year Treasury Yield: Treasury yields were up as investors looked ahead to January’s nonfarm payrolls report which due tomorrow morning. The 10-year yield was at 4.448% as of this post update.
After-hours action: Stock futures were little changed. The Dow futures was down -0.07% vs. fair value. S&P 500 futures was down -0.07% and Nasdaq 100 futures was down -0.03% as at the time of this post update.
Market Roundup Report: The market rally continues but volatility may become more prevalent. Today’s market performance was quite normal in every respect. It was a regular market, no-event day. There were no spectacular moves. Volume today was about the same as yesterday. It was a really, very ordinary market day.
