Today is Canada’ s Thanksgiving  holiday. The market was closed today.

The US Markets

Today, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 201.36 points or 0.47%, to close the market session at 43,065.22. The S&P 500 index was up 44.82 points, or 0.77%, to close at 5,859.85. The Nasdaq Composite was up 159.75 points or 0.87%, to close the session at 18,502.69. The three indexes were up today with Dow closing above the 43,000 mark for the first time ever but NASDAQ was the best performer today.

The Market Spread: The positive market today was broad-based. Continuing the trend of the previous two sessions, nine of the major sectors ended the market session with pretty good gains. Utilities was up 1.29%; Technology was up 1.02% and Financials was up 0.65%. JP Morgan Chase bank gave back  some of Friday’s gains today. Durable Consumer Goods & Services was up 0.54%. Energy declined -0.25% today.

The Industry Groups:  Semiconductor Equipment & Testing led the industries with a 3.49% gain today. Textiles & Leather Goods was up 2.51%; Homebuilding was up 2.13%; Semiconductors was up 1.84% – the Chips manufacturers had a good session.  Arm Holdings Plc (ARM) was up 6.8%, Taiwan Semiconductors (TSM) was up and Nvidia Corp (NVDA) was also up today. AMD stock was down though. Construction – Supplies & Fixtures was up 1.64%. The market spread had a good breadth.

Today’s Market Statistics:  At the NYSE, the gaining issues (Advancers) outnumbered the declined issues (Decliners) by a ratio of 1.6-to-1.0 or for every eight Advancers there were five Decliners. In actual numbers, there were 2,430 Advancers to 1,538 Decliners with 313 Unchanged.

There were 582 new 52-Week Highs and 41 new 52-Week Lows. By comparison, on Friday, there were 455 new 52-Week Highs and 44 new 52-Week Lows. The bullish trend is on full steam.

The total volume of stocks traded at the NYSE today was 962,578,887 or 15% higher than a total volume of 839,148,844 stocks traded on Friday.

On the NASDAQ, there was also a reversal, the Advancers prevailed over the Decliners by a ratio of 1.28to-1 or roughly for every six Advancers there were five Decliners. In actual numbers, 2,416 Advancers to 1,884 Decliners with 263 Unchanged.

There were 332 new 52-Week Highs but 94 new 52-Week Lows. On Friday, there were 294 new 52-Week Highs and 101 new 52-Week Lows.

Oil Price:    Oil price was down earlier today at $71.30 as at market close. However, Oil price slid $2 in early Asian trade on Tuesday as OPEC lowered its outlook for global oil demand growth in 2024 and 2025 and  media report that Israel is willing to strike Iranian military and not nuclear or oil targets.

10 –year Treasury Yield:       The US 10-year Treasury yield closed at 4.1%, up from Friday’s close of 4.071%, while the five-year yield closed at 3.902%, up from 3.877%.

Market Roundup Report: Last week was pretty good for the market and this week started well. Dow Jones index closed above the 43,000 mark for the first time. NASDAQ was the best performer of the three indexes today. Chips Manufacturers had a good session. The market spread was quite broad-based. It is really time to be fully invested.
