The Toronto Market
The TSX composite index was down -27.03 points or -0.11% to close the market session at 25,631.83. The TSX took a relatively minor breather today. Today’s -27.03 decline slightly falls outside the market “daily noise” range.
The Market Breadth: Only three of the ten major sectors ended the session with gains but the gains were quite decent. We must pay attention to this market. Is the market about to change the current outlook? Energy was up 1.03%; Telecommunications Services was up 0.94% and Technology was up 0.92%. Shopify Inc.’s earnings report response was the main driver for the gain by the technology sector.
Today’s Statistics: The issues that declined (Decliners) outnumbered the issues that gained (Advancers). There were three Decliners for every two Advancers or a more exact ratio of 1.56-to-1.0. In real numbers, there were 1,131 Decliners to 723 Advancers while 188 stocks remained Unchanged.
There were 75 new 52-Week Highs and 30 new 52-Week Lows. By comparison, there were 119 new 52-Week Highs and 20 new 52-Week Lows yesterday.
The total volume of shares traded today at the TSX was 340,736,505 or about 13% less compared to the volume of 392,579,781 shares traded yesterday.

The US Markets
The Dow Jones Average index gained 123.24 or 0.28% to close at 44,593.65. The S&P 500 index was up 2.06 points or 0.03% to close at 6,068.50. The Nasdaq Composite declined -70.41 points or -0.36%, to close at 19,643.86. The NASDAQ is currently the sickly brother among the three major indexes.
The Market Breadth: Five of the eleven market sectors gained. Telecommunications Services was up 1.10%; Durable Consumer Goods & Services gained 0.86%; Energy was up 0.53%; Financials gained 0.21%; and Utilities gained 0.16%. Discretionary Consumer Goods & Services declined -0.96%.
Today’s Market Statistics: At the NYSE, the number of issues that declined (Decliners) narrowly edged out the number of issues that gained (Advancers) outnumbered. There was roughly one Decliner for every Advancer or an exact ratio of 1.05-to-1.0. In actual numbers, there were 2,072 Decliners to 1,965 Advancers with 325 Unchanged. The choppy market and the volatility continues.
There were 113 new 52-Week Highs and 82 new 52-Week Lows. By comparison, yesterday, there were 159 new 52-Week Highs and 86 new 52-Week Lows.
The total volume of stocks traded at the NYSE today was 4,433,805,290 or 2% less, compared to the volume of 4,534,351,468 shares traded yesterday.
On the NASDAQ, the Decliners outnumbered the Advancers. There were three Decliners for every two Advancers or an exact ratio of 1.5-to-1.0. In actual numbers, 2,654 Decliners to 1,772 Advancers with 239 Unchanged.
Today, there were 92 new 52-Week Highs and 219 new 52-Week Lows. By comparison, yesterday there were 164 new 52-Week Highs and 188 new 52-Week Lows.
The total volume of shares traded at the NASDAQ was 9,621,577,882, or 2% less compared to the volume of 9,834,221,175 shares traded yesterday.
Oil Price: U.S. crude Oil U.S. crude oil prices rose 1.4% to $73.03 a barrel.
10 –year Treasury Yield: The 10-year Treasury yield climbed today and was at 4.547% as of the time of this post update. The 10-year yield is up more than ten basis points during the past five consecutive sessions.
After-hours action: Stock futures were little changed. The Dow futures was down -0.08% vs. fair value. S&P 500 futures was down -0.10% and Nasdaq 100 futures was down -0.04% as of the time (11:30pm EST) of this post update.
Market Roundup Report: There is some rotation to Financials. The sector has been struggling for several sessions.

Investors appears to be wondering if investing in Tesla EVs will be a good investment manager. Tesla’s stock price has fallen the past five market sessions. No person can be in several places at any one time.

SMCI dropped -9.47% during the regular markets today, however, the shares are up 7.5% in the after-hours market after company’s CEO said that heavy adoption of its direct-liquid-cooling technology in data centers over the next 12 months should pave the way for $40 billion in revenue for the fiscal year that ends halfway through calendar 2026.
