The Toronto Market
Today, the TSX composite index advanced 101.99 points or 0.42% to close the market session at 24,565.66.
The Market Spread: The market breadth was broad-based as eight of the major sectors ended the session in green. The Discretionary Consumer Goods & Services, up 0.99% and Durable Consumer Goods & Services, up 0.88%, were the top performing sectors at quite an upbeat market today. Financials was up 0.88% also and Technology was up 0.70%. Telecommunications Services was up 0.54%. Healthcare was down -0.34%. Energy was down -0.91% driven by Oil price decline continuing from yesterday as investors appear to think that Iran will likely not respond to the latest attack by Israel after weekend’s attack.
Today’s Statistics: Today, the gaining issues (Advancers) outnumbered declined issues (Decliners) by a ratio of 1.50-to-1.0 or simply, there were three Advancers for every two Decliners. In real numbers, there were 1,112 Advancers and 740 Decliners while 168 stocks remained Unchanged.
The total volume of shares traded at the TSX today was 363,524,740 or 9% more when compared to the volume of 333,743,750 shares traded yesterday.
Today, there were 115 new 52-Week Highs and 23 new 52-Week Lows. By comparison, there were 110 new 52-Week Highs and 10 new 52-Week Lows on Friday.

The US Markets
After hours action: Stock futures are little changed as Wall Street braces for Big Tech earnings. Dow Jones futures declined -0.12% vs. fair value. S&P 500 futures declined -0.06% and Nasdaq futures is currently up a mere 0.02% as at the time of this post – 11:30pm EST.
The markets closed with all indexes in green today. The Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed up 273.17 points or 0.65%, to close the market session at 42,387.57. The S&P 500 index was up 15.40 points, or 0.27%, to close at 5,823.52. The Nasdaq Composite was up 48.58 points or 0.26%, to close the session at 18,567.19. We got a bullish start to the week.
The Market Spread: The markets today compensated for the narrow breadth of the past few sessions. Today nine of the major sectors ended the session in green. Financials, up 1.27%, was the top performing sector today. Basic materials was up 0.94% and Utilities was up 0.76%. Telecommunications Services was up 0.56% and Technology was up 0.14%. Energy, down -0.83%, was the lone sector to end the session with a decline.
Today’s Market Statistics: At the NYSE, the gaining issues (Advancers) outnumbered the declined issues (Decliners). The ratio was 1.88-to-1.0 or roughly for every two Advancers there was one Decliner. In actual numbers, there were 2,568 Advancers to 1,366 Decliners with 297 Unchanged.
Today, there were 147 new 52-Week Highs and 41 new 52-Week Lows. By comparison, on Friday there were 180 new 52-Week Highs and 43 new 52-Week Lows.
The total volume of stocks traded at the NYSE today was 907,966,652 or about 14% less than the total volume of 1,050,282,823 stocks traded on Friday.
On the NASDAQ, the Advancers outnumbered the Decliners by a ratio of 2.10-to-1.0, or for every two Advancers there was one Decliner. In actual numbers, 2,934 Advancers to 1,398 Decliners with 261 Unchanged.
Today, there were 128 new 52-Week Highs but 84 new 52-Week Lows. By comparison, on Friday there were 112 new 52-Week Highs but 99 new 52-Week Lows.
The total volume of stocks traded at the NASDAQ today was 6,344,297,060, or about 7% more compared to the total volume of 5,911,949,976 shares traded on Friday.
Oil Price: Oil price edged up a barrel and was at $67.40 as at the time of this post.
10 –year Treasury Yield: The US 10-year Treasury yield closed at 4.276%, up from Friday’s close of 4.23%. The five-year yield closed at 4.107%, up from 4.052%.
